Do you set New Year's Resolutions? Maybe your like me, I often times will set New Year's Resolutions and don't keep them. But, my New Year's Resolution for 2019 I did accomplish!! I've told yall this story, but a year ago tomorrow I stood in front of my family and announced to everyone that I wanted to start a nonprofit that would help educate and advocate for those living with food allergies. I didn't know a clue about starting a nonprofit, so I came home the next day and texted a friend of mines and asked her did she know anything about starting a nonprofit. After that text message, that began the 10 month process to get our nonprofit Peyton's Allergy Shield Of Hope up and running. This is the first New Year's Resolution that I have ever set and accomplished. Reflecting back over the past months, and knowing that I did accomplish my Resolution for 2019 got me excited to set more Resolutions for 2020. There are so many things that I want to do in the New Year with PASH (our nonprofit), I have a list here right next to me. But the first thing on my list is Self Care. I have to set aside time to take care of myself, or I'm no good for my husband, my three children, or PASH. I don't know about your life, but my life is constantly on the go. Having 3 kids who are VERY ACTIVE, makes for a VERY BUSY LIFE. Often times I get lost in the shuffle of their activities that they have going on, that I forget about myself. My husband and I have slowly started to implement date night with each other. Whether that means going out to eat with each other or going to a movie, just spending time together is something that we've slowly started to implement due to our kids busy schedules.
What does self care look like to me?? I've been pondering this question for the past few days, and I've come up with the conclusion that self care for me is taking time out for myself. Self Care to me is to pamper myself, focus on my health, and to focus on living a healthier lifestyle. Believe it or not, I have never had a professional massage...lol when I tell my friends this they are shocked. This is something I need to have done this year, maybe more than once...lol. Focusing on my health and living a healthier lifestyle to me would be to get my body moving...exercise and eat healthier. Everyone says every year, "I'm going to eat better and exercise more!!" I'm not talking about exercising and eating better to lose weight, I happy where I am with my weight....but just to move more is what I want to accomplish. Exercising clears your head for the start of your day, and with my job Lord knows I need that. Spending more alone time with my husband, is also at the top of my list. Wesley and Peyton are getting older, and Wes can stay at home with her alone without me being paranoid...lol. This has made it easier for Bernard and I to just spend time together without any of the kids tagging alone.
My New Year's Resolution for my family would be to spend more time doing family oriented things with my children....even if that means forcing my 18 year old son who's a senior to do it. This year has been a wake up call for me, and even though I tell my children every day that I love them...give them kisses and hugs...it was a slap in the face when Jayden turned 18 years old and I realized come this time next year, you wont be living at home....you will be in college. My husband made a comment the other day after before Christmas, he said " next year Jayden may not be home for Christmas...depending on how well his football team does for the seasons." You don't think about it when your kids are little and running around the house playing with their trucks and balls, that they may not come home for Christmas while they are in college. So, that is a big goal that I want to accomplish in 2020, to spend more time with my family.
Lastly, PASH (Peyton's Allergy Shield Of Hope)!!! I have so many ideas in my head of what I want to accomplish with PASH in 2020. There are some community involved activities that I want to roll out. I also want to plan a food allergy awareness walk for 2020, and also get our foot in the doors with some of our local schools. These are just a few ideas that I want to see come to fruition for PASH in 2020. My heart is full because the Lord blessed me and my family abundantly in 2019 !! With the Lord's Favor, and continued blessings I know that anything that I put in front of me I will accomplish.
We're wishing you and yours a safe and blessed 2020 from The York Family and all of us here at PASH!! Happy New Year!!
